How to submit your website to Bing so Copilot can find it
Microsoft’s Copilot answers from Bing. There is no separate Copilot form for a local business. You do two free jobs: claim the map listing, and tell Bing which pages exist on your website.
People mix these up because both say “Bing.” The map listing is Bing Places. The website submission is Bing Webmaster Tools. Do both, with the same name and phone you use on Google.
Job 1: the map listing
Bing Places is where the address, hours, and phone live for Bing search and Bing Maps. In October 2025 Microsoft moved the owner portal to bing.com/forbusiness. The older bingplaces.com address may still send you there.
- Sign in with a Microsoft account.
- Search for the business before you create anything. If a listing exists, claim it. A second listing splits the record.
- If Bing offers an import from Google, use it only after the Google profile is already correct. Then read every field. Imports copy mistakes.
- If no listing exists, add one with the real name, address or service area, phone, category, hours, and website.
- Finish whatever verification Bing asks for. Phone, email, or a postcard are the usual paths. The listing is not yours until that finishes.
Microsoft’s support page says you use Bing Places to add or change the business in Bing Maps results. Some features depend on the country.
Job 2: the website
The map listing does not submit your service pages. That happens in Bing Webmaster Tools.
- Sign in. You can use a Microsoft, Google, or Facebook account.
- If the site is already verified in Google Search Console, import it. Bing can bring the verified site and the sitemaps across. That is the short path.
- If you add the site by hand, verify it. Bing’s help lists a file on the site, a meta tag, or a DNS record.
- Submit the sitemap. On many sites that file is
/sitemap.xmlor/sitemap_index.xml. If you do not have one, ask whoever built the site. A sitemap lists URLs. It does not rank them. - Open robots.txt and confirm Bingbot is allowed to read the public pages. A
Disallow: /under a rule that applies to Bingbot hides the site.
Bing also lets you submit individual URLs. The dashboard shows how many you can send. Use that for a new service page or a corrected hours page. It is a request, not a guarantee of indexing.
IndexNow, if your host has the switch
IndexNow is a free ping that tells Bing a page changed. Some website builders, CDNs, and SEO plugins have a checkbox. Turn it on after the site is verified. Microsoft’s webmaster guidance treats those pings as a way for Bing, and the Copilot answers that use Bing, to drop an outdated URL. You still correct the page first.
Then ask Copilot
Ask Copilot the same question you would ask ChatGPT: who it recommends for your trade in your town, and what it knows about your business name. Write down the links. A wrong hour gets fixed on Bing Places and on the website, then the sitemap or IndexNow ping goes out again.
ChatGPT is a different crawler. Submitting to Bing does not file you with OpenAI. Allow OAI-SearchBot on the public pages if you also want ChatGPT search to be able to read them. The ChatGPT guide covers that check.
